I Made More with HubPages Ad Program Than AdSense Last Month
72I haven't been very active at HubPages since the Panda Update earlier this year. In fact, this is only the second Hub that I have written since March of this year. The reason is that I started my own blog and am actually doing quite well making money using my own blog as a platform. HubPages has essentially become a major source of passive income for me since all I have been doing is checking my account a couple times per week to see if there are any comments on my previous Hubs.
Imagine My Surprise
Despite not being very active, I still manage to get more traffic here at HubPages than at my current blog. My goal is to catch HubPages and surpass the amount of traffic, but it is still less than half. For the summer months, my traffic here just kept declining. It was really upsetting but I figured that there were others who depended upon this site for their livelihood so there was some motivation to figure out what to do.
I really started noticing a change once all my articles went into a subdomain. That seems to be the biggest factor in stopping the traffic decline. My HubPages traffic has now been increasing along with my Ad Program earnings for several weeks now. It is still about half what I was getting in January of this year, but I am at least hopeful.
Ad Program Earnings
One of the benefits to the increased traffic has been that my HubPages Ad Program earnings have improved. In fact, for the month of October 2011, those earnings actually surpassed what I earned with AdSense. I made $14.01 with the HubPages Ad Program which was $2 more than with AdSense. Because with HubPages I can get paid for views, the improved traffic has helped me earn a little more money. It is enough to pay for the hosting fees of my own blog. And it is totally passive!
If my traffic ends up improving to the point it was in January of this year, I would be earning about $30 per month. Then it might be worth it to try and write a little bit more and encourage some other sources of traffic in order to get to the $50 payment threshold on a monthly basis. This last month has been a little more encouraging for me with HubPages even though I am not spending much time on the site.

Glad to hear that you made some money. Some of us are not. It is a lot of work to compose and write the articles. It gives us the continued thinking and writing skills.

Thanks. You will notice that I have 201 Hubs now. It has taken a lot of writing to earn a little bit, but it is passive now.
I would say the same to Lyla and Nan. Write for the exposure and experience, then start your own blog. That is where I am making more money than HubPages.
I am very interested in what you have said here. I am going to have to go back and review the Hub ad program. Like you, I havn't written a hub in a few weeks. Life just sends me more and more 'stuff' to do. Thanks for the push I need to get going again.

The nice thing is that you don't have to depend upon clicks to make money. Simple views and traffic will do so a popular topic can still make something.
I've been making a LOT more with the ad program than I ever did with adsense.
I've never really made much money here - but that's probably mostly due to what I write about - guitars, Texas, animals, and political stuff.
Paul E published a hub on how to figure out if you'd make more with the HP ads on or off. I'd probably benefit from re reading that one.
Article Marketing has got to be one of the most challenging "careers" or "jobs" out there - but it's fun to learn new things. Nobody should ever think it's easy money - that's the furthest thing from the truth.

Easy money it is not. I did try turning off the Ad Program for a short time but figured that making something on a daily basis was better than making nothing. Besides, the earnings here pay for my hosting fees so I can consider all AdSense earnings from my blog as pure profit.

I need to get back over to Info Barrel - as they pay a better adsense split anyway. I'm like you in that I like seeing that I've earned something daily!
I do really like HP the best - as we've all got four different affiliates that we can turn into revenue streams.

It is good to have various income streams. I have earned something little from Amazon each and every month this year through October so I am hoping to go 12 for 12.

I get dry months with amazon - but this month I had a record number of sales - not a record commission, but TWELVE items sold - that's HUGE for me.
If I ever go 12 for 12 with amazon.com - I'll start considering myself "good" at this!

Hmmmm. Well, I am new to this Hub Page writing and I too have a web site out there on my own. I was hoping this would provide me the income to support the other. Thanks, I am glad I was able to help. The key is getting some visitors which will make a little money here. That is just enough to pay for another site which can make even more money. Over time, the sites can gain traffic through the search engines provided the content is good. Then the money will gradually increase and increase.
Yes I have tried the HubPages Ad Program a few times. Each time I would only earn around $2 a day but lose at least $4 to $6 a day from my Adsense earnings. So it is off now for good. But glad to read some people find it good for their earnings.
Each one needs to experiment to see what works best. I wasn't earning much with AdSense at all when I turned off the Ad Program so it made sense for me to go with it.
KIdgas , your HUB is an eyeopener for a fresher like me because for no reason at all , Adsense cancelled my Account . I am thinking of a better way , because we need cash also for our true work .Thanks .
You definitely want to explore different options of earning money online and be diversified. Sites and programs can be shut down without warning. I have been part of eHow and Life123 that were shut down. Be proactive and adaptable.
