Make Money Online with List My Five, A New Money Making Site

I have been looking for another money making website to diversify my online income and about a week ago ran across a blog post about a new online site called List My Five. I decided to check it out and was impressed so I joined. Not only did I join the site, but I also joined the writers compensation program. It was incredibly quick and easy to join and within 30 minutes, I had published my very first list.
The basic idea is that you write a list of five items starting with The Top Five. Needless to say, there are many possible lists that can be made using such a format. Each item of the list needs a 25 word description so an entire list is a minimum of 125 words. There is also an optional introduction and conclusion so the entire list could easily be longer.
Reasons to Like List My Five
There are several nice features of the site that make it a good site with which to diversify an online passive income stream:
- Payment is via Paypal. I like the idea that payment will occur monthly via paypal. Clearly that is different than having to wait for a check to be mailed and deposited.
- Low minimum payout. The payout threshold is only $10 which is encouraging since it seems like a fairly low hurdle to meet. This is good for maintaining motivation.
- Easy to use interface. The interface to publish a list is incredibly easy to use and very straightforward.
- Instant publication. As soon as you are done writing your list and supporting points, your work is published instantly. There is no need to wait on an editor or approval.
- Links. At the end of your list, you can publish relevant links which might be a decent way to link to other articles and sites which are related to your list, including those which you have published.
- No AdSense required. You don't have to have an AdSense account to make money at List My Five.

Reasons to Not Like List My Five
I always want to be as fair and unbiased as possible, presenting all the pertinent information and allow you to make your own conclusions and decisions. Therefore, I would like to present the shortcomings of the site:
- It is a new and unproven site. There is a risk spending much time on an unproven site. Of course traffic is still fairly light and no payout history is available. The search engine engines offer no authority at all to this site yet.
- No community. So far, there is no real community. There are no forums and no way to follow individual writers or even search their lists. This could end up being a major deficiency should these improvements never occur.
- Need tax information. The site not only requires a paypal account to be part of the compensation program but you must also provide tax payment information. Although I am not 100% sure, but I suspect this may limit the countries which may be able to participate in the writers compensation program.
Well, the bottom line is that I joined the site and the compensation program. It was easy since I already had a paypal account and am a resident of the United States. I also have published 4 lists so far and have made 12 cents in the first week. Certainly it is not going to make me rich by any means but I believe that over time as I add more and more material, the site could become a nice additional source of passive income.

Nice information about List My Five. I'm glad you covered both the pros and cons about the site.
Although, I'm not sure what you mean by there is an inability to save work on List My Five. I have two drafts saved there right now that have been sitting there for a week. And I've saved others and published them later.
And you want to make sure that if you edit a list that you click on the publish, not save link, as it appears your list will go back into draft mode and be invisible again.

Thanks for the info. I made a list at LM5. But I think the payout program is only for US which makes it a bummer. Also, like you said it requires tax information. I have a feeling that it might be big though and will gain authority in search engines.

Hey, folks I have been conducting my own research, as well. I think Kidgas did a great job in review. However, I usually check Alexa site ratings to help decide whether or not I should devote any of my time to a shared revenue publisher.
I found it has a very fast load time which should help as it creates a following. The world rank is: 166,965 with the USA rank being ranked at 13, 394 (Hub USA is ranked at 110, World rank is 182. Hub is listed with 22, 613 links in, MyFive is not disclosed.
I am new with Hub. I have done a lot of research prior to joining as I wish to focus topically with as few shared revenue publishers as possible. However, if my topic or style won't fit that is when I go to the next highest rated publisher by my criteria. So, I guess I have my own brand of MyFive:-)

I've never heard of anything like this. Is it like contributing to a library of "top-10(5)" lists that publishers can later buy to fill article space in their publications? Then you split payment with the library?

According to the terms of use, you must be a U.S. resident, however it says they will be adding other countries soon, shame really seems like a half decent site, but I'm not in the U.S.

You are right; it is a shame that others can't participate yet. It will be good when that happens so that you can write for them if you want.
Just wanted to say that there have been a few changes at LM5 that makes a few of the things in the article out of date...they do now have a forum, for example, the community there isn't large but it seems to be growing somewhat and is helpful. And you can follow other writers now too.
They also aren't requiring certain tax info, like SS#'s right away anymore like they first did...they now are waiting until people earn a certain amount before asking for that info.

You are right. LM5 is constantly working to update and improve the sight. I like the new features that you have mentioned, but I still don't earn much more than a dollar a month. Of course, I only have 13 lists. I have been working primarily here on HubPages since I feel it is more worth my time.
I agree that Hubpages is better use of time for most people than List My Five. I too only have a few lists and though I have made more than a dollar a month, but it's only a place I'd write for now and then and not my main focus by any means. It seems like most people have to have fresh content there to keep earnings up. I had fifteen lists in December and January and made $3 one month (one of my lists was featured on the homepage so that might have boosted traffic to my other lists) and $2 the following month. I expect to earn less in February unless I add more lists.
