Making Money Online: My Traffic Generation Results

By Kidgas

One of the major factors in making money online is driving traffic to your articles or websites.  There are several different ways to accomplish this goal.  You can develop your own supplementary articles that point to your main article or site.  You can post appropriate comments on related forums and blogs.  You can develop your own blog or other websites and simply include links that let your readers know about your other work.  Social bookmarking sites can be used to help drive traffic to your articles or website.  As a relatively new online money maker, I am still working to develop this aspect.  My goal is to get one view per Hub per day to start.  I have been able to accomplish on several occasions but have yet to do this consistently.  That is why it is vital to continue to develop links using these methods.  I would like to review my results thus far.

Links From Other Articles

My best results for referring readers to my Hubs have come from eHow.  By publishing related articles on that site, I not only increase my Hub traffic, but I can earn money at the same time.  In fact, eHow earned more revenue last month than HubPages.  This is despite the fact that I have about 2.5 times the number of articles on HubPages.  It makes me think that I should spend more time writing on eHow.  The format for HubPages is just so much easier to work with.

Comment on Relevant Blog

The next best way for me to get traffic has been to comment on a blog related to one of my articles.  I really should try to do more of this type of traffic generation since it worked so well.  I only have placed a few links.  This is something that could be done when I only have a little time and don’t feel like writing a complete article.  It could also be done while watching television.

Making money online is a marathon and not a sprint.  This is what I had planned when I first started with $30 monthly income in July 2010 and figured that I would try to grow that figure by 5%...

Social Bookmarking

I routinely hit the button to tweet all my new Hubs.  Surprisingly, I have gotten 27 views through Twitter.  That is despite having very few followers and essentially none when I signed up.  The followers have just shown up over time and obviously are linking to my articles.  The next most successful social site for me has been Xomba.  I have received 10 views through that source.  I suspect that this site will prove more valuable than Twitter over time since I only just started adding links to my Hubs.  The other nice thing about Xomba is that I can earn money from AdSense ads shown next to my links.  I have actually earned money doing this.  It is the best of both worlds.

Supplemental Articles

I have placed one article at ezinearticles.com.  From that article, I have received 11 views to the Hub that I featured.  This might be another way to drive traffic to my Hubs but is one that I will likely use later on since if I am going to write another article, I will likely place it on another site that will earn money for me.

That has been my experience so far.  The best thing that I have done is started writing other related articles on other content sites that will earn me money.  Furthermore, those sites have the potential to add to my income in a significant fashion.  That is why, in addition to writing Hubs, I will continue to write for eHow, Xomba, and InfoBarrel.  I will need to do a better job of creating links as I keep writing, but I think this will be one of the better strategies for me to employ.

Hey hey Im the first to comment! Now don't anyone comment while I am writing this!

Another gem of a page Kidgas! You talked about a few sites for generating more traffic like Xomba, I am going to have to have a look as I can't imagine you waste your time on useless ones so they must be worth a look in. The info you share is so valuable to someone like me who is still somewhat new (am getting there but no grey hairs yet lol) so I just want to say

THANK YOU!

Very nice!

I like to see results that people actually get, not just a lot of hype like you usually hear.

Keep up the good work!

I dont have twitter account, and do not intend to sign up. Some kind folks have read my blogs and tweet for me! The traffic isn't great, about ten visitors according to the statcounter.
