My First Visit to Sports Clips for a Haircut
By Kidgas
For those of you who haven't heard of Sports Clips, it is a franchised chain of salons focusing on the male demographic by way of a sports theme. I have always been curious since one opened up a few years ago about 6 miles from my house but never actually got to one. Well, one opened up a little closer and was close enough that they sent me a coupon in the mail for a free haircut. So I figured that trying the place for free would be perfect and went to get my hair cut yesterday.
The sports theme is obvious when you walk in the door. The employees are dressed in referee uniforms with black pants and the black and white striped shirts. There are several flat screen televisions with ESPN playing. The supply cabinets by the hair cutting stations look like lockers.
I started out by explaining that I had the free coupon for a haircut which was regularly $16. Well, I was given the MVP treatment for free which would normally have cost $21, so I felt like I was really getting a good deal. It started off with a typical haircut although a type of gel was used in my hair instead of the usual water from a spray bottle. It had been a while since I had gotten a haircut. My hair was halfway down the ear, and I usually get it cut above the ear. Of course being as busy as I am, finding the time to get a cut is difficult so I intentionally get it cut short so I can go awhile without.
The best part of the experience came after the cut as part of the MVP treatment. I was then brought over to the sink and got my hair washed while sitting in a massage chair. I also had a hot towel placed on my face with a "pressure point" massage. Then it was back to the regular chair to finish up with a massage device on my shoulders and upper back. The MVP part alone was worth the price of admission. I felt pretty good and relaxed at the end.
Overall, I would have to say that the experience was a good one. I also signed up for the birthday club and will get a free MVP treatment sent by email for use during the month of my birthday. I will definitely use that since I enjoy getting stuff for free. I will also go back as a paying customer provided it doesn't get too busy. There is another haircut franchise close to our house which is where I typically go. It is busy and not as clean. Of course, the haircut is a little cheaper but I have never gotten anything for free. If I only get about 6 cuts per year and one is free, then the price is comparable and there is simply no contest. Sports clips will be getting my business.
Enjoy a massage to help you relax

Comment on Haircuts
Actually, it is a good place to get a reasonably good hair cut. I've tried a lot of places and it depends upon the barber and how many people are waiting for the next barber to be available, etc.
My advice is to get in early in the day, and on a week day, so that there is no pressure for the "clippers" to rush you through. Better to get a cut when there's little pressure than going through a couple of weeks always wearing a hat.
Good advice, budwood.
Superb information that you have presented. Keep up the good work
Thanks, I am looking forward to getting a free haircut during the month of my birthday.
