My Plan for Tripling Online Income Next Year

72

By Kidgas

I had originally thought about titling this Hub, "My Plan for Doubling Online Income Next Year", but thought that it would be too easy. I felt that tripling the income would make for a better stretch goal. So far it looks like I will make about $470 in AdSense income for the year. My goal for 2011 is to make $1400 in AdSense for the entire year while at the same time watching my monthly income move from $60 to near $180.

How do I plan on doing this? I don't know that I can increase my CPC much. Over the course of my time on HubPages I learned about keywords and keyword research and have managed to double my CPC already, but it has held within a range for the past several months. I also don't think that I will increase my CTR very much either although with a higher percentage of search traffic I might be able to do that.

Since my CPC and CTR can't be expected to contribute much to income gains, then the bottom line is that I must increase my traffic.  Furthermore, I must triple my existing level of traffic so I have to figure out how I plan on doing that.

Need to Triple Traffic in 2011

Writing More Hubs

One of the ways that I will use to get more traffic is to increase my publication of Hubs. This will provide me with a greater opportunity to hit upon the right topics that will generate the additional traffic necessary to meet my income goals. I figure that I should be able to get to a total of 300 Hubs by the end of 2011. Given the fact that I will have 170 or so by the end of this year, I could get to my goal by publishing 3 Hubs per week. Writing one during the week and one each on Saturday and Sunday would allow me to get over 300 Hubs completed without seeming like I was pushing myself too hard.

By almost doubling the number of Hubs that I have published, I should expect a doubling of my traffic at least.  Of course if I hit a few more popular topics, then my traffic could be tripled without any additional effort.  However, I suspect that I will need to do some more work.

Improved Backlinking Efforts

Up until now, I have done very little backlinking of my Hubs.  I have done some with Xomba and very little with SheToldMe and Snipsly.  Only about 25% of my Hubs have links from Xomba and only a handful from the other two sites.  Improving my efforts at these sites seems like a good place to start.  I figure that this will help my income for two reasons.

First, these sites all have AdSense sharing and I have earned some income from them already.  Increasing the number of links at the site will only add to the number of ad impressions that I am getting across the internet.  Second, the links that are do-follow will improve my position in the SERPs and lead to improved traffic from search engines.  Needless to say, the improved search traffic will lead to increased earnings as well.

I figure that the combination of additional Hubs and improved backlinking efforts should lead to at least a tripling of traffic across all my Hubs.  Assuming that the CTR and the CPC changes very little, then I should expect AdSense income to triple as well.

Looking Back

As I look back over my AdSense earnings for 2009, I see two months with an income of $22 and one with $24.  Those are my lowest months for the year.  These months will provide a good indication of how I am progressing on my efforts to triple my online income next year.  Essentially, I will have to have $66 in income for January and February and $72 for the month of March to know that I am well on my way.

I made $56 in November and $59 in October so I am close but will have to see some additional gains to get off to a good start next year.  I know that additional effort will only help and enhance the possibilities if I can just stick with it.  The backlinking will be the toughest part I think since I enjoy writing more.  Unfortunately, time constraints often keep me from being able to write as much as I would like.  Not to mention the fact that after being at work and running to pick up kids and being out of the house from 6 am til 10 pm, I am usually somewhat tired and not in the mental state to write.  That's why breaking it down to one Hub during the week and one each on Saturdays and Sundays seems quite reasonable.

So, what are your goals for the next year?  Do you wish to increase your AdSense income or maybe focus on the Amazon affiliate program?  Do you have a plan or strategy?  Please comment below.

Good luck with your plan. Having a strategy to increase your earnings is your first step. I too, am planning on tripling my earnings from my online efforts in 2011.

The only thing you don't say here which I am assuming you mean to do is that you will research the keywords for your hubs carefully before you write. I have found that with good keyword research, the backlinking while valuable is less crucial. I am rooting you on!

Kidgas, this is a great plan, and it might work for me too. I want to write 100 hubs next year. This year I didn't publish near that number, but I wanted to develop some new niches. I really enjoy writing about children's books but they are not my earners. I agree with lakeerieartists that keywords can make a big difference in your earnings, and that is something that we can all do. I recently updated a series of 12 hubs that weren't getting much traffic by cross-linking the info in them with a sort of index and that seems to have started an increase in traffic, too.

This year my Christmas-time earnings really took off, which is so encouraging. This was a candid hub and I appreciate what you shared. Good luck, I'll be cheering you on too!

Keywords have made a big difference for sure. I have done plenty of keyword research in the past and have more than doubled my average CPC as a result. I think that increasing my earnings using keywords has been pretty much maxed out as best I can tell.

I do think that as the economy improves that advertisers may begin paying more so that could help but I don't think that will happen next year.

Great hub! I also have the same plans (writing more will be a priority). Good luck to you and I hope success will follow!

I wish you all the best with your goals in 2011. I'm starting out and my goal is to work towards my first Google AdSense payout. I need to learn more about keyword research and writing content in such a way that it'll draw crowds. As soon as I earn any money at all I'll raise my goal to a higher level.

Very useful hub. Thanks for sharing what seem to be realistic goals. Being new I'm still learning about the business end of hub pages which is why I read hubs like this. I'm working toward my first Google Adsense payout which looks like it could take 6 months and I just registered as an Amazon affiliate. I want to continue writing 2 to 3 hubs a week on topics I'm passionate about and continue following hubbers whose work I admire and aspire to.

Good luck to you as well, vox. Writing should be a priority for those who want to continue to improve.

@simeonvisser,

Thanks for the well wishes. I wish you the best in 2011 and that you will learn about keywords to make that first payout and more.

@dallas,

Happy New Year to you. Good luck in 2011.

@boomernurse,

It sounds like you are making a lot of effort. It will pay off for you I am sure. Keep writing those Hubs and good things will happen.

Another good hub... If you want backlinks, backlink yourself on Facebook... Just search for the various Hubpages fan pages and facebook pages and post links to your hubs there... I've received lots of visitors from facebook because of this... One such fan page is at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Hubpages-Fan/305990528421... It works man... Anyway, good hub that I thoroughly enjoyed and will utilize in my future efforts. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the luck jtbsunny.

@whcobb,

I am not sure that I fully understand what you are saying. I do post my Hubs to Facebook and have seen some traffic from those sources, but it sounds as if you are referring to something a little bit different.

whcobb profile image

whcobb 17 months ago

Well.... There are the fanpages on facebook that you can search for related to hubpages. On some of my hubs I have written I look for related fan pages on Facebook and post a link on their walls... That gets me backlinks and I get traffic from there... All of my hubs' stats show links from facebook. I also post to Twitter as well. I hope I verified what I am talking about. Now, I don't really make a lot of income from hubpages or adsense in general and I do not use infolinks or kontera anymore, either.

Hi Kidgas,

Good to catch up on your efforts, and I applaud your pushing the envelope to really get after those passive income goals. Thanks for your kind words at my blog (Master Dayton) and I actually mentioned this hub in my newest post and linked to it. Hope everything is going well and have a great New Year!

Thanks so much for the mention. I read your post (it was a long one) and read the earlier one about backlinking that you mention as well. I appreciate the mention and hope that we can inspire others to create more passive income. Good luck in your efforts for 2011. You have a lot planned.

I just wrote in a forum that I want to be earning $500 a month by the end of 2011 which is about 9.5 times what I'm earning now. That may have been overly ambitious! That much money a month sure would be nice though. Good luck to you!

Kidgas profile image

Kidgas Hub Author 16 months ago

Wow! That is incredibly ambitious. But just think, even if you only get halfway there, you are making some decent money. It will take some effort but has been done.

Just so you know Xomba is no-follow so it is not particularly good for backlinking, I think you will easily hit your target though!

Kidgas profile image

Kidgas Hub Author 16 months ago

Ryan,

That is wonderful news. I will be there in a heartbeat because I am sure it will be very useful and successful.

thisisoli,

Yes, Xomba is no-follow but I do earn a little bit of AdSense money from it and get traffic so I will continue to add there but need to focus on the do-follow like shetoldme and snipsly.

I'm brand new here and just stumbled on to your hub by accident. I couldn't help but notice that you already have over 180 hubs... I don't even know where to start! I'm having a hard time thinking about writing my 1st one.

Good luck to you in 2011. I'm sure you can meet your goal.

Kidgas profile image

Kidgas Hub Author 16 months ago

ftworthroofer,

Thanks for the well wishes. As far as writing goes, it is hard to get started. Just write about something. It will get easier for sure. I also thought that there was no way that I could even write 30 Hubs. But now I have 180 and plan on having over 300 by the end of the year.

Lissie profile image

Kidgas I think you will make it - you have a good idea about the volume of work required- but the bottom line is that passive income requires the work up front but long term it keeps on paying.

Focus on the backlinks too - I know that they are currently not fashionable - but I know from my own stats- they work !

Marisa Wright profile image

Marisa Wright Level 5 Commenter 16 months ago

What Lissie said! I do think you need to do some more research on how and where to get backlinks - Sunforged has some good Hubs on it. You need to think beyond the Snipslys of this world!

I wish you all the best kidgas, and from your approach i know you will meet your goals ( and even surpass them). I aim to have 300 hubs published by the end of 2011. Don't know how, but after reading three of your hubs today, you sure are setting me on the right path.

Wish backlinking wasn't so important though. Quite a chore for me, but well, i need to heed to the kind of good advice you are giving us here.

If i can just do that, i should be able to triple my earnings by Christmas

Thanks for sharing.

Kidgas, I think you may hire someone for SEO your hubs(get backlinks). With your income from Google AdSense, you can invest some money to do that. You may not do all of your hubs, it will cost too much, just focus on your high income hubs. With small twist, I think you can increase your income easily. My 2 cents.

Best wishes

I think it will pay off eventually. I think the easy money at HubPages might become a little more difficult with the algorithm change, but I still think there is plenty of opportunity.
