Saturday Series on Creating a Blog to Make Money
By Kidgas
I am starting a series on my newest blog on how to create a money making blog. Essentially, I am taking the steps that I have found to be helpful and refining them so that if you are just starting out, you can begin making a blog for the purpose of generating an income. Although I had planned to eventually make some money, I had no idea that I would have been able to make as much as I have as quickly.
I was able to make $1000 online in both November and December which came to over $800 net income after some expenses. Right now, it looks like I will make about $400 gross but there are still 3 weeks left in the month. I suspect that I will be able to get some more revenue during that time.
Step 1: Don't Plan on Making Money
The first thing that you need to do is be prepared to write for awhile before making any money. It will take a lot of work to develop an online presence if you have never really spent much time online. I had a little bit of knowledge from spending 2 years on HubPages and running my own blogger blog, but had made little more than $1000 per year while writing during those two years.
I really didn't start my blog planning to make money right away. I figured that it would take several years to develop a blog with some authority. Following the Panda update, I decided that the best way to start making some money was to start writing and keep at it, year after year. I was in it for the long haul.
So, if you want to eventually make some money with your blog, you really need to plan on spending a lot of time writing, building relationships and regular readers, and interacting with the blogging community before you will be noticed enough by advertisers or search engines to start making money.
That is why I suggest writing about something that you would enjoy writing about. Working on your blog really needs to be about passion more than making money. Otherwise, it simply becomes work and a task that needs to be completed rather than something providing a mental outlet and enjoyment.
At my new blog, I am giving you a task to complete if you are really interested in making money. Next Saturday, we will begin working on the next step so be sure to stop by, complete this week's "homework" assignment and tune in on January 14th for the next step.
Comment on Blogs
Thanks so much. I am wondering if Facebook and social search will become the traffic platform of the future. It may take a while, but the trend is interesting to watch.
Like everything else, the social media platforms depend on the audience. It is fun to watch, but sometimes aggravating trying to figure out who goes where and why.. LOL I'm expecting Twitter to make some changes soon though. Too many folks simply spamming Twitter all-day-long.
That would be good to see some changes at Twitter. I don't use it much, but do occasionally find some good articles that have been tweeted.

Great Hub starter and great blog Kidgas. You hit the nail on the head regarding not to expect to make money with a blog, at least not for some time. It takes time, constant writing and constantly building relationships with your readers. I believe post-Panda that although SEO is good and serves to a point, the real sustainable traffic comes from quality content and building relationaships.
Absolutely love the first day of your new series on your blog. Great stuff.
