Spot It! is a Fun Card Game That Can Get Wild and Crazy

As a kid, I always liked to play board games and card games as well as the video games.  My wife is the same way except for the video games.  I had a lot of different games growing up like Monopoly, The Game of Life, Payday (one of my favorites), Stratego, etc.  As a family, we also own several games and play with the kids.  Occasionally during times of the year when we aren't too busy, we will have a game night at home and pick 3 or 4 to play.

Well, one of the newest games that we have gotten is a game called Spot It! by the Blue Orange company.  It is a card game that has comes with 55 round cards in a convenient portable metal tin.  Each card has 8 different colorful symbols on it.  I am not sure how many total symbols there are since I haven't bothered to add them up.  I think it is an interesting mathematical exercise to have 55 cards each with one match to all of the other cards!

Anyway, there are 4 different ways to play the game with the object of being the individual who is fastest in spotting the match and either getting rid of cards or accumulating cards depending upon which version you are playing.  My personal favorite is the Hot Potato variation.  In this game, you have 2 to 8 players and determine how many rounds you want to play.  Each round consists of dealing out one card to each person who holds the card face down on an outstretched palm.  Everyone then turns his or her card over at the same time and everyone starts looking for a match on someone else's card.

If you see a match, you call it out and place your card on top of theirs.  That means they have a new card with different symbols and have to start over looking for matches.  You can imagine the fast pace with 5 or 6 people all yelling out matches and reaching over each other to get rid of a card.  At the end of the round, one person ends up with all of the cards and sets them aside.  Round 2 begins.  At the end of all the rounds, the player with the most cards loses.

It would be easy to have a party with an elimination tournament and multiple decks going in different rooms.  The game really is a riot and fun to play.  Check out the video to see another variation of the game.  Believe me, the players were being polite for the video.  The reality is that players are yelling and rushing to place cards on the deck and slapping at one another.  It is a lot of fun.  You should buy Spot It! from Amazon today.

It is a great game, but can be frustrating when the pace gets quick. Put 5 or 6 people together and it is intense!

I love this game, and have actually spent the time to count how many different symbols are used. There are 57 different symbols in all, most occurring 7 or 8 times throughout the deck. The snowman is the only symbol to occur less than that, 6 times.

Melanie,

I am impressed that you took the time to count them like that. Interesting information, to be sure.
