Twenty Keywords with CPC More Than $20
88When I have difficulty thinking about what to write, I will sometimes go to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and just type in various keywords and phrases to get a sense of what the CPCs for some of the terms are. Occasionally I will become inspired to write a particular Hub on a topic because the synonyms will prompt an idea. At other times I will simply type a phrase and then type another one in an attempt to find out which keywords have the highest CPC. It is sort of a game to see what the maximal dollar value is.
Today was one of those other times. I really didn't have any great ideas for new Hubs although I must confess that I am writing this one. I did, however, find some keywords with some really high values. It is interesting to me to note that the overall values I am seeing now are much greater than just two years ago at the height of the financial crisis. I suspect that companies were cutting back on expenses and that online advertising was cut as well. Now that the economy is supposedly improving, companies are spending more and there is more competition for keywords driving up the prices. This can only benefit content producers as higher CPCs will enhance revenues.

I would encourage everyone to do their own keyword research and write on topics which are of sufficient interest that writing does not seem like a chore. I would also recommend spending a few minutes becoming familiar with the Google Adwords Keyword Tool since it can be quite useful in stimulating ideas and guiding one to additional keywords that should be considered when writing about a particular topic.
Ever wonder why there are so many Hubs and articles about mesothelioma? Well that is because exposure to asbestos causes mesothelioma and there are billions of dollars of liability for companies involved in asbestos production and use. Lawyers pay big bucks to advertise on the internet and solicit clients. Legal terms usually pay big CPCs. For example:

Education is another area in which there is plenty of profit to be had from students willing to pay thousands in tuition. Many schools want to get a portion of this multi-billion dollar business and will pay top advertising dollar to do so. Examples:

Financial companies are always looking for new business and customers rarely change banks or financial institutions once they become a customer. It is worth the expense of advertising to garner the potential for years worth of fees. Check out these keywords:

- 10 best credit cards $31.17
- Money market interest rates $29.22
- Cheapest insurance quotes $23.31
Internet and web hosting is another service type industry with recurrent fees that always seems to have a high CPC. Anyone with a solid knowledge of this topic could make a mint if able to best the competition in the SERPs.

Rounding out my list of 20 keywords are the following:
- Coffee am $117.10 (not sure what I would do with this one, but found it interesting)
- Tonic health insurance $62.82
- Stay hotel New York $51.34
- Cause of birth defects $24.55
Finding these high CPC keywords is only the beginning, though. If you want to make money off them, then you have to assess the competition and look for those which might offer the greatest potential for ranking in the search engines. You can bet the competition for mesothelioma is tough.
Anyway, just thought I would share what I do at times when I am having a hard time figuring out a Hub topic. Maybe this Hub will inspire you to write about one of the above keyword phrases or challenge you to go out and find your own. No matter what you do, have fun with it!

I do the same thing, but I use the Keyword Tool to identify the more valuable phrases in the topics that interest me. I don't plan on writing about mesothelioma but knowing how the tool works is helpful for my topics.
I am bookmarking this hub so that I can come back to it whenever.
Until now I have been writing on topics such as memoirs and humorous, however I am now turning my hand to other topics and so that i will have more of a chance to earn some money. Therefore hubs such as this one are priceless.An up and useful here.

Those pay per click costs are incredible! I am in direct marketing and the term mailing lists is between $15-20 per click. I would be break my computer seeing someone coming onto my site for a few seconds and leaving if we were paying over $100 a click. Great read and thanks for the information.
It does annoy me that the highest paying keywords are the ones I know little or nothing about! I also use the google keyword tool often and so far the highest keyword i've used is "Insurance Quotes" which fetches me $65 per click. This hub has been useful. Thanks!

I haven't used a tool to find the most profitable but have used one to find the most popular words searched. Those stories are less read than ones I wrote by the seat of my pants. Go figure.
I'll try this route and see if it gets me anywhere.
I still haven't figured out what topics might drive the most traffic so I usually just write about those topics in which I have a specific interest. Some catch on, but most don't.

That is true. Some of the words would take a lot of work and effort to create something meaningful. However, the point is to use them as a launch pad for finding other words in the topic area that might be more palatable.

I usually avoid the high CPC niches as many of them appear to be heavily saturated by professional marketers. Glad to hear some of you are having success with them.

Well, it used to be quite easy to get this information for free from Google. I haven't done any work in a while but the same principles apply for high CPC costs.

The problem is that you used to be able to get that information, but the last time I checked, it was unavailable. Now you also should remember that there is a lot of competition for those types of words. Just look at everyone writing about mesothelioma on HubPages. It is hard to rank on the search engine above all that noise. Don't think it will happen without a lot of hard work.
Well, anyway I've already started to work with one promising niche. BTW, here is one tip from me )))
I started my small blog about tourism in India http://www.indiantripsinfo.com/ to share my experience (I spent the whole last summer there). So I was not really looking for a niche, but thanks to your hub I got the idea of how to find the sweetest pieces of my niche.
I went to adwords, entered my niche there and got the list of all the keywords related to my website together with the prices for advertisement. With that info I easily created a list of the most interesting keywords in my niche.
Thanks to that list I've already started my next post that will be related to rather promising yet low competitive keyword for tourism in India.
So my method (which is based on the knowledge you shared here) is not to look for the niche, but to get the best pieces from the niche you are already in.

And as for choosing the niche, IMHO one should simply pick something he can bring some valuable info about. And when picking the topic, we should remember, that the most popular topics (e.g. medicine, gambling, tourism, insurance, etc.) are the most paid ones.
I like to write about what interests me and have done exactly as you suggest. Sometimes using slightly different wording can make a big difference in earnings.
yeap, I was shocked when I found out that even changing from word1 word2 to word2 word1 can increase the price in adsense. Rather strange system if you ask me :)
