Using HubPages Views to Identify Popular Topics
65It is very difficult for me to identify those topics which might be popular and resonate with readers. As a result, I have several Hubs that I have written which get minimal traffic. In fact, I have 67 out of 213 Hubs (or 31%) which have fewer than 100 views.
Now I suppose that some of it could be that those Hubs were published early on in my internet writing career when I knew less about SEO and my writing skills were not as good. It could also be that I was just getting started and had few followers and little knowledge of how to market my writing.

Now of my more recent Hubs published in December 2011 and this month, I already have 5 out of 13 with more than 100 views with several likely to get past that mark. In fact, it seems like only 2 of the Hubs might have the possibility of staying below that total.
I am actually surprised by one of those since it is helping to announce a contest in which readers can win money, although the title is not necessarily indicative of that fact since I didn't want to be overly promotional.

Using HubPages to Identify Popular Blog Topics
Now the one thing that I think is useful for me is to use HubPages views to identify potentially interesting topics and articles for my personal blogs. If I am able to write a Hub that generates a lot of interest and staying power, it would seem to make sense that it might make for a great post on my blog.
My personal finance blog already gets a fair amount of traffic. Considering that I just recently published my 100th post on the site, I am getting almost as much traffic as I do on HubPages. In the past week, my blog has about 60% the level of traffic with less than half the articles. I suspect that there will be sometime during the year when my blog gets more traffic than my Hubs.
Now that is OK since I learned quite a bit on HubPages. I am actually thankful for having the platform to learn about SEO and traffic generation. I can also write on other topics and possibly find alternative niches for future blogs. So HubPages is serving an incredibly vital function in my quest for online income even if it doesn't generate as much income as my blog.
It might be possible to eventually develop HubPages into another substantial source of income since the added effort that I have made recently has helped to increase my income in a rather dramatic fashion. I have even set a personal daily best with earnings from the Ad Program by making $2.72 on January 1st. I hope to eventually surpass that total and continue to grow my views and earnings throughout the year.
So as I look over those Hubs of mine that have gotten the most views, I will try to focus on those areas and do a little more experimentation to see what other popular Hubs I might be able to come up with. If you have any ideas, feel free to share them below.

The question is how do I stack up with where you were after 4 months, am I below or above?
OK- good food for thought! Are you allowed to link a blog to Hub Pages for traffic? If I have a web site for say -real estate with a "how to"blog can it link back to a hub page I write on the same "how to" subject for reference?
Also - If I comment on someones Hub Page am I allowed to use that comment as a link to my page?
Many thanks!
You can put a link in the comments section, after all it can always be deleted. I generally try not to do it, but sometimes it maybe necessary as opposed to writing a lengthy comment.

Now this is very interesting to me as, just recently I have learned a bit about increasing traffic to my hubs. What I would like to know is how my stats compare to other with relatively the same amount of Hubs.
I'll give you a quick breakdown and maybe you could assess the situation for me. I've published 35 HP articles in 4 months, of those 23 have over a 100 views (readers). Of the 23, 3 have over 500 readers (one has 1,850, one has 850 and the other 500).
However just recently I realized that it is very important to include the title of your hub in the first paragraph, in the content and in the last paragraph. Being more thoughtful about Tags, even if they don't necessarily pertain directly to your article and posting immediately on at least four social sites.
That being said on of my Hubs (Hollow Earth) has been on the first page of Google for two straight weeks, which is kick ass in itself, but is only at 500 viewers.
So I think the title maybe the most important tool for getting readers, by using 2012 as the first word in any conspiracy type article greatly increases views also 'how to' or 'top ten' are good title starters.
Anyway great hub and a subject that needs more attention, way to go!
